01 Jul Dixon Center for Military and Veteran Services
Have you heard about our July PositivCares partner? We are pleased to partner with our friends, Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services for our Honor & Duty movie lineup! At Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services, they believe veterans and military families can succeed where they live. They also believe that every organization and individual can effectively integrate veterans and their families into their existing community-based programs. Their main mission is to ensure both values are possible in every community.
They partner with business and industry, service providers, and training institutions to develop and operate direct service programs for veterans and their families. Their goal is not to create new programs. Rather, the goal is to enable the integration of military and veteran services into existing programs to increase impact.
The idea for Dixon Center for Military and Veterans Services – a resource enabling the integration of military and veterans services into existing programs to increase impact – originated out of experiences serving in the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Their chairman, Colonel David Sutherland, U.S. Army (Retired) oversaw the division responsible for Warrior and Family Support, traveling the United States to implement these ideas. Several of the white papers authored by the team from the Office of Warrior and Family Support, during Dixon Center’s formative years helped shape the core themes behind their Center.
As a Center, they provide and coordinate technical assistance/training, resource sharing, and strong leadership to their partners, who operate direct service programs with our ongoing support. They work at local and national levels in five focus areas:
- Workforce development and career placement
- Housing solutions
- Wellness research and development
- Expanding funding streams for veteran entrepreneurs
- Advancing impact via service network
