Women can experience abortion as a deep wound—tangled up with powerful feelings of abandonment, anger, powerlessness, shame, and loss. And since an abortion is often a carefully guarded secret, these painful feelings are usually deeply buried, eventually causing other problems like eating disorders, relationship difficulties, reenactments (i.e., repeat abortions), substance abuse, chronic or acute depression, suicidal thoughts and behavior, and parenting difficulties. Women who have suffered the loss of a child through abortion often feel condemned to a life of regret and self-reproach. And, if they consider themselves spiritual, they might also feel alienated from God. While some women understand that God can forgive them, they can struggle to forgive themselves.
If you or someone you love is hurting from an abortion, Rachel’s Vineyard can help. We offer a safe place to renew, rebuild, and redeem hearts suffering from the emotional or spiritual pain of a traumatic pregnancy loss. Our supportive, trauma-sensitive retreats are designed to help you get away from the daily pressures of life so you can experience God’s love and compassion in a safe, nonjudgmental, and confidential setting.

“How can I express the abundance of gratitude to realize for the first time that I have calm in my heart and am no longer experiencing the constant fear, anxiety, and condemnation? How can I describe that in 48 hours I reconciled with my Heavenly Father? The healing process can only begin with forgiveness. And now I have the greatest gift of all: the right to recognize, name, mourn, and give dignity to my first beloved son.”
Rachel’s Vineyard is one of the largest, worldwide retreat programs for people who seek healing after an abortion. At least 400 retreats are held globally each year—in 33+ languages and in more than 50 countries. The retreats are open to people of any faith or denomination, as well as those with no formal faith connection. And they are led by women who suffered the same loss, found their healing at Rachel’s Vineyard, and want to help others.
"My Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat experience was so special and valuable to me. I can honestly say my life has a new meaning. I have lived many years in self-punishment, subconsciously hurting myself because I did not know how to grieve my abortions effectively. The experienced volunteers and Living Scriptures exercises were so healing that I came home from the Rachel's Vineyard retreat renewed and extremely at peace." - A Retreat Participant
